FLAC (Itasca) is an explicit finite differences program for two- dimensional mechanical calculations. At the chair this program is used to simulate two-dimensional geotechnical problems. In addition to the basic program options, “creep”, “dynamic”, “thermal” and “user-defined models” can be selected. On the one hand these options allow calculation of creeping (long-term problem), on the other hand analyses of dynamic processes like earthquakes, vibrations, etc. or thermal problems. The option “user-defined models” enables implementation of own constitutive laws in FLAC. The field of application ranges from simple stress analyses to complex simulations including support measures and rheological behavior.
